OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 20, 2006 Railsplitters Crack The Top 30 HARROGATE, TN – For the first time since at least the 2002 season, the Lincoln Memorial University baseball team is ranked among the top-30 NCAA Division II teams in the country according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. CBN’s latest poll released today has the Railsplitters at #23 in the country following this weekend’s three-game sweep of conference foe Valdosta State University. The Railsplitters rolled over the Blazers in Saturday’s first game, run ruling VSU 10-0 and then topped the afternoon off with a 7-4 come from behind victory to mark the first time an LMU baseball team has ever beaten the Blazers twice in the same day. On Sunday, Lincoln Memorial again handed Valdosta State a run rule loss of 16-6 to take the series 3-0 and move the Railsplitter’s season record to 18-8 overall. With the majority of Lincoln Memorial’s games still to come this spring, the Railsplitters will be trying to reach the Gulf South Conference Tournament for the first time since 1998 and finish their final season as a GSC member in strong fashion. Next year Lincoln Memorial University will join Tusculum College and Carson-Newman College when they officially become member of the South Atlantic Conference. Coincidentally, Tusculum and Carson-Newman are also ranked among the top-30 teams in this week’s CBN poll. The Pioneers are #27 while the Eagles come in this week at #19.-LMU- For additional
