Railsplitters Upset Twelfth-Ranked Florida Southern

LAKELAND, FL – LMU Junior lefthander Joe Workman scattered six hits and pitched a nine-inning complete game, as Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) edged 12th-ranked Florida Southern 5-4 on Friday night at Henley Field.  The win evened Lincoln Memorial's record at 4-4 and dropped FSC to 6-4.

Workman (2-1) struck out five, walked four and allowed just two base runners over the last three innings.  Derek Treece and Wes Thompson each had three hits and drove in a run, while Mickey Apple drove in two runs with a single and an infield out.

The Railsplitters reached Moccasin starter Dan Albritton (2-1) for four hits and three runs in the sixth to take the lead, then added an unearned run in the eighth that proved to be the difference.

The Moccasins scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Raul Rodriguez to make it 4-3.  After Lincoln Memorial scored in the eighth to go up 5-3, the Moccasins answered with a two-out RBI-single by Will Cherry that scored Mike Grace, but Workman retired the next four batters to wrap up his complete-game effort.
