OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 5, 2006 Splitters Put Together Nine Innings to Knock off USC-Aiken AIKEN, SC – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team took the best two out of three series from host team USC-Aiken on Sunday afternoon to move to 2-1 on the year. The Railsplitters held the #8 ranked Pacers scoreless over the final eight innings to come away with the 8-5 victory. LMU’s Reed Neff (Brentwood, TN) picked up the win. Despite getting roughed up a bit in the bottom of the first inning, Neff pitched eight innings allowing only seven hits, five runs and five earned runs, while walking six batters and striking out two. University of South Carolina-Aiken errors helped Neff’s cause somewhat as the Pacers committed four errors on the afternoon and LMU capitalized on them. At the plate, Hunter Pelt (Coppell, TX) and Mickey Apple (Virginia Beach, VA) both recorded two RBI each. Pelt was two for five on the afternoon, while Apple finished two for three. LMU’s Bryon Izzo (Miramar, FL) and Dustin Roland (Eagle River, AK) were responsible for the other two Railsplitter RBI. Now 2-1 on the year, the Railsplitters will return home this week for several days of practice before playing host to Ohio Valley College in a three-game set to open the home schedule next Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s double-header is set to get underway at 12:00 p.m., while Sunday’s single nine inning game will start at 1:00 o’clock. Lincoln Memorial.........200 050 010 - 8 10 0 -LMU- For additional
