LMU Baseball Announces 2006 Schedule

HARROGATE, TN - With much anticipation, Head Coach Jeff Sziksai announced the 2006 baseball schedule today.  Facing their most challenging schedule in recent memory, the Railsplitters will have their hands full, both in and out of conference play this season.

The schedule pairs LMU with nine nationally ranked teams for a total of 18 games against ranked opponents.  Non-conference play is highlighted by trips to #8 USC-Aiken, and #1 Florida Southern, last years NCAA Division II National Champion.  LMU will also play a one game home and home series against #3 Tusculum College as well.

Within the Gulf South Conference Eastern Division, LMU will compete against three nationally ranked opponents.  The Railsplitters will make a trip to Florence, AL to face #19 UNA, while hosting #16 West Alabama, and #33 West Florida.  Additional home games for the Railsplitters include series against University of Alabama-Huntsville, and Valdosta State University, as well as two single games against local rival #39 Carson-Newman.

The Splitters open up February 3, at USC-Aiken at 4:00 p.m. and play their first home game on Lamar Hennon Field on February 11, at 1:00 o’clock against Ohio Valley College.  When asked about the 2006 schedule Sziksai commented, “From beginning to end, we will be challenged throughout the year.  However, as a group, we feel that we can beat anyone we play.  We will have to play well, play hard, and play together every single day if we want to compete.”
