Railsplitter Recruiting
Class Could Be The Best In Years
With the 2007-08 school year
already underway, Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball coach Hugh Watson
released this week the signees for this year’s team. Although the season is
still a couple of months away, practice will begin in mid October in preparation
for the Railsplitters season-opening exhibition November 5.

NCAA Degree Completion Scholarship
Lincoln
Memorial University’s Kai Wells, a senior on the 2006-07 basketball squad was
recently awarded an NCAA Division II Degree Completion Scholarship for the
2007-08 academic year. Wells joins Wingate University’s Ashley Green as the
only to South Atlantic Conference athletes to receive the award.

Railsplitter Basketball Season
In another of
high scoring affair that seems to have become a late season trend for the LMU
men’s basketball team, the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College eliminated the
Railsplitters with a 101-90 win over Lincoln Memorial in the Quarterfinals of
the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night in
Hickory.

Lack Thereof) Kills Railsplitter Hopes For Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne
Following
a close first half of play, the
Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team trailed 31-24 at the half in
Monday night’s South Atlantic Conference road game against league-leading
Lenoir-Rhyne College. The Railsplitters were still very much in the game as the
second half got underway, but a scoreless stretch of eight minutes and
fifty-four seconds to open the second half quickly took away any chances of

Although Lincoln Memorial trailed visiting Mars Hill College for nearly the
entire game, it was the Railsplitters' flat start of the second half that

could say the Railsplitters were defeated by Presbyterian College Wednesday
night due to the Blue Hose three point shooting, or it might have been
because LMU only had eight players dressed out due to the suspension of
three players last week for team rules violations. Whatever the reason,
Presbyterian stayed near the top of the South Atlantic Conference race with
a 73-57 win over Lincoln Memorial and added to what has become a frustrating

Holding on to the ball proved to be the fatal blow to the Lincoln Memorial
men in Saturday evenings 112-89 loss at Wingate University. The
Railsplitters committed 32 turnovers, most of which came in the first half
in route to their second loss of the season.

Comes from Behind to Top Lincoln Memorial in Season Opener, 82-70
MHC rallied from a double-figure deficit in the first half to win their
season opener 82-70 tonight in Stanford Arena. The Lions trailed LMU by 18
points with 12:20 left in the first stanza after Artavius Mitchell
(Chicago, IL) hit a 3-pointer. MHC (1-0) battled back out scoring the
Railsplitters (0-1) 24-to-15 over the next nine minutes to trim the
deficit to just a single point with 3:09 left in the first half after
James Hippolyte (Spring Valley, NY) hit a layup. LMU held on to the lead
and took a four point advantage (42-38) into the locker room at the

The Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s basketball teams both
play their season-openers tonight on the road. The LMU men travel to
Mars Hill, North Carolina where they will take on the Mountain Lions of

Carolina for a date with Lees McRae College.

Memorial University men’s basketball forward Kenneth Fox (Lexington,
Kentucky) has been named to the Gulf South Conference Preseason
All-Conference team. The announcement came Thursday evening from the
conference office in Birmingham, Alabama.
