Tusculum Team Falls Before 'Dale Rush 12-6
-------------------------------
The Airedales, pride of L.M.U. on the
gridiron, defeated Tusculum 12-6 in a surprise game. The 'Dales were not
expected to take the game but Coach Alexander lived up to his reputation of
doing things not expected.
With both teams fighting hard and playing heads-up
football, they battled to a standstill [in] the opening period. In the second
stanza, Tusculum broke loose when Teganno, fast half, took the oval over the
last line but the try for point failed. When the half ended, Tusculum was
leading by the 6-point margin.
In the second half, the men of Alexander the Great came
back fighting, and with renewed vigor they battled the Tusculum boys off their
feet. Dazzling runs by Johnson and Shields, hard plunges by Liebrock and brainy
calling by Jones bewildered the opposition, and the Airedales shoved a marker
over in the remaining two periods.
Jones, Quarter, and Johnson, left half, scored for
[the] Airedales in the third and fourth periods respectively.
Home Coming Saturday
L.M.U. will play their homecoming day
game here Saturday against East Tennessee Teachers at East End Park. The
Teachers are in the Conference, and backed by an inspiring homecoming crowd,
L.M.U. is going to play hard to take the game. It will be a stiff game, and
L.M.U. will do well to win it.
