WASPS DEFEATED BY LINCOLN MEMORIAL
--------------------------------------
Inability to Stop Pass is Deciding Factor for Emory and Henry
Loss.
--------------------------------------------------
(Herald Courier Special.)
CUMBERLAND GAP, Tenn. Oct. 2. --
Inability to stop a pass in the first few minutes of play cost Emory and Henry
its game with Lincoln Memorial University here today 6 to 0. After Mandly
snatched the ball from Farmer on his thirty yard line and planted the ball on
Emory's fifteen yard marker, the Wasp line held like a stone wall. Farmer kicked
30 yards. An L.M.U. pass, Lines to Nard, produced Lincoln's touchdown at this
stage of the game. In the second quarter the Wasps marched from midfield to the
one foot line but there Lincoln Memorial held.
After her score, L.M.U. resorted to defensive tactics
the remainder of the game. Emory made six first downs through the Lincoln line
while the locals secured two. The passing attack of the teams was excellent.
Three fourths of the game was played in Lincoln territory. L.M.U. was penalized
frequently for holding. Farmer was the outstanding player for Emory and Henry.
