AIREDALES WIN LAST
--------------------------------------
In the Thanksgiving game the Airedales
were not up to form and this, coupled with an extremely wet field gave them only
a 7-0 win over the Hiwassee College team.
The Hiwassee line outweighed the Airedale line by
perhaps 15 pounds to the man. But it was not a question of beef, it was a
question of superior coaching and Coach Garrett's proteges showed they did not
lack that, even on a wet fieldand against a much heavier team.
The game was slow throughout. Neither team could carry
the ball very far without it going over.
Turner kicked off to Hiwassee's 8 yard line. Hiwassee
returned 15 yards and on the line marks gained eight yards and on the fourth
down punted. turner returned to Hiwassee's 8 yard line, an attempted pass failed
the ball going over to Hiwassee on the 20 yard line.
Continuing this style of play, line blocks and short
gains the teams battled well into the third quarter when Turner passed to Long
and L.M.U. scored the only touchdown of the game. Turner kicked goal and the
count stood 7-0.
In the fourth quarter Hiwassee grabbed a fumble and
started down the field and it seemed as tho' they would tie the count. Every
one's blood nearly froze, but Cureton, L.M.U.'s big guard made better speed
thru' the mud and downed the man on the 20 yard line.
With the exception of Cureton and Niles Brown no one
starred, but all played very consistent ball.
This game ended L.M.U.'s first year on the grid, giving
us three wins and three losses.
