Airedales Win From Union 33-0
---------------------------
The Blue and Gray Clad warriors of
L.M.U. too the field again Saturday, November 17, against the highly doped team
of Union College and again emerged the victor, in a contest which was fought
clean through, by a score of 33-0.
The score fails to tell the story of the brilliant, dazzling
play of the backs and the stonewall defence of the line.
At times Union showed a brilliant offense and at one
time carried the ball to L.M.U.'s one yard line but were held to four successive
downs by the Airedales.
The interference of the L.M.U. back field was the best
seen on the local field this year.
Tex Turner, again distinguished himself by his broken
field running and tackling.
Union played a hard game and deserved a better fate.
Howard, Union's Captain, and Foley, quarter, showed up well and their work was
consistent throughout.
Turner, of L.M.U., kicked to Union's ten yard line;
L.M.U. recovered. Turner went over the line for a touchdown. Niles Brown on an
end run scored the second touchdown for the Airedales. Turner kicked goal. L.M.U.
kicked off to Union again who lost the ball on downs. By consistent gaining
L.M.U. carried the ball to Union's ten yard line, and Niles Brown went around
left end for a third touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, the score stood
19-0 for the Airedales.
No score was made in the second quarter.
In the second half Union kicked to L.M.U. the Airedales
lost the ball on fumbles and threw Union for a safety. Pettigrew scored the
fourth touchdown for L.M.U., and at the end of the third quarter the score read
27-0.
In the early part of the fourth quarter, L.M.U.
fumbled, Hale recovered and made a sensational run of eighty yards for a
touchdown.
The L.M.U. line was a stonewall on defense, showing the
results of coaching under the experienced hand of Coach Garrett. The backfield
interference was exceptionally good. The outstanding stars of the game were
Pettigrew, Niles Brown and Turner in the backfield; Holsberry, Hale and Carr in
the line.
